Grand Theft Auto VI releases on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. That date is Rockstar's third, and as of August 2026 it is the one the company says will hold.

Here is how it got there, and what is genuinely settled versus what is still open.

The delay timeline

The original window was Fall 2025, announced alongside Trailer 1 in December 2023.

That moved to May 26, 2026 — a specific date, announced in May 2025, with Trailer 2 following days later.

That moved again to November 19, 2026, with Rockstar citing additional polish time. Two delays, roughly fourteen months of slip in total.

Does the date hold?

As of early August 2026, Take-Two chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick has publicly reaffirmed November 19 and said the game will not be delayed again.

That is a stronger statement than a publisher usually makes, and it comes late enough in the cycle to mean something — three months out, a studio generally knows. It is still a statement of intent rather than a guarantee, and the previous two dates were also stated with confidence at the time.

Platforms

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Both are launch platforms; there is no exclusivity arrangement between them.

There is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and no PC version at launch — the PC situation has its own page, because it is the question people actually ask.

Rockstar has also published nothing about performance targets on any platform: no framerate, no resolution, and no statement about PS5 Pro. That information has historically arrived when reviews do.

What the delays actually bought

Rockstar's stated reason both times was polish — the studio's standard formulation, and one it has used for every major delay in its history. It is not an informative answer, but it is also not a new one.

What is worth noting is the shape of the slip. The first move, from a season to a specific date, is the kind a publisher makes when it has finally locked a plan. The second, from May to November, is a six-month push made after that plan was already public — a costlier decision, and one companies do not take lightly when a date has been marketed.

Take-Two also moved GTA 6 out of its own fiscal year in the process, which is the sort of thing a publicly traded publisher only does when the alternative is worse. Read into that what you like; the company has said only that the extra time goes into the game.

How to read a Rockstar date

Rockstar has a long record of shipping on the date it last announced, and an equally long record of announcing more than one. Red Dead Redemption 2 slipped twice and then arrived exactly when the third date said. GTA V slipped once and did the same.

The pattern is that the final date holds. The difficulty is knowing which one is final until it is — and the only external signal that has ever correlated is how close the announcement sits to launch. November 19 was reaffirmed in August, three months out. That is late enough to be meaningful.

What is not confirmed

Preload timing. Regional release times, beyond the date itself. Whether there is a midnight launch, and in which timezone it anchors.

Edition contents beyond what the press material shows. Pricing has not been the subject of an official Rockstar statement either, despite a great deal of confident reporting about it.

Whether there is a review embargo, and when it lifts — which for a game this size is the difference between knowing what you are buying on launch day and finding out afterwards.
