Lore & Analysis

Long-form breakdowns of what Rockstar has actually told us about Leonida and the people in it — with the source named on every piece.

The first female lead of a mainline Grand Theft Auto

Who Is Lucia Caminos?

4 min read · Source: Trailer 1, Trailer 2 & the official GTA 6 site

Lucia Caminos is the first female protagonist to headline a mainline Grand Theft Auto — a change the series took more than two decades to make, and one Rockstar led with rather than buried. She is not a supporting character promoted into a co-lead slot; she is the first person we ever see in GTA 6 footage.

Her family came to Vice City from Liberty City, her father having made the move before her. That detail quietly ties Leonida back to the series' existing geography and gives Lucia the position of someone shaped by a city she was transplanted into rather than born to — an outsider's read on a place the game otherwise presents as home turf.

Trailer 1 opens with her incarcerated, and a voice off-camera reframing her situation as a parole hearing. Rockstar has been explicit that her circumstances are the product of bad luck and the people around her as much as her own choices, which is a notably less triumphant setup than the series usually gives a new lead.

What Rockstar has confirmed is the shape of her partnership with Jason Duval: two people whose loyalty to each other is the engine of the story, in a Bonnie-and-Clyde framing the studio has leaned into openly. What has not been confirmed is how that partnership ends — and anyone telling you otherwise is speculating.

Army, the Keys, and a boss worth leaving

Jason Duval, Explained

4 min read · Source: Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025) & the official GTA 6 site

Jason Duval grew up around people who made their money the easy way, and Rockstar has framed that as the default he never really escaped. He spent time in the Army, which took him out of that orbit — and then, after service, he ended up in the Leonida Keys, right back inside it.

In the Keys he works for Brian Heder, a local drug runner. Rockstar's own description positions Heder less as a criminal mastermind than as a lifestyle Jason has drifted into: low-level running work, a permanent holiday setting, and no obvious exit. It is a very deliberate contrast with Lucia, whose constraints are formal and legal where his are inertial.

Trailer 2 gives him considerably more screen time and dialogue than the first trailer did, and the throughline is that meeting Lucia is what actually moves him. The studio's framing is that things get complicated fast once the two of them decide to act together — the trailer sells partnership and escalation, not a heist plan.

Worth noting what is still unknown: the mission structure around the two protagonists, whether you switch between them freely as in GTA V, and how much of the game is played as each. Rockstar has not confirmed any of it.

Six names, straight from the official character list

Everyone Rockstar Confirmed in Trailer 2

5 min read · Source: Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025) & the official GTA 6 site

Alongside Trailer 2, Rockstar published a supporting cast on the official site. This is the confirmed list, and it is a useful antidote to the character rumours that circulate every few weeks.

Cal Hampton is a friend of Jason's, described as happiest at home with a police scanner running and a deep investment in internet conspiracy theories — the trailer plays him as comic relief with a paranoid streak.

Boobie Ike is a Vice City businessman who came up through the streets and converted that into legitimate-facing enterprises. Dre'Quan Priest is a music producer who turned a promoter career into a label, Only Raw Records, and the two are presented as connected operators in the city's music economy.

Real Dimez — the duo of Bae-Luxe and Roxy — are a rap act tied to Dre'Quan's orbit, and their presence signals how much of Leonida's culture Rockstar is routing through social media and the music industry rather than traditional crime factions.

Raul Bautista leads a bank-robbing crew and is framed as the character most likely to pull the protagonists into serious, high-risk work. Brian Heder is Jason's boss in the Keys, the drug runner keeping him in place.

That is six confirmed supporting characters. Every other name you have seen attached to GTA 6 is, at time of writing, unverified — which is exactly why it is not on this site.

A note on sourcing

Everything above comes from Rockstar’s two official trailers and the official Grand Theft Auto VI website. Where something is unknown, we say it is unknown rather than filling the gap with a rumour.
