There is no PC version to wait for — yet
Is GTA 6 Coming to PC? What Rockstar Has Actually Said
5 min read · Source: Take-Two statements and Rockstar's release history · Updated August 23, 2026

The question is usually framed as 'PS5 or wait for PC?'. That framing assumes a choice exists, and right now it does not: there is no announced PC version of GTA 6. No date, no storefront, no system requirements.
So the real question is whether waiting is a plan or a gamble. Here is what is actually known.
What is confirmed
GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are the only two platforms Rockstar has committed to.
As of August 2026, Rockstar has confirmed no PC release date, named no PC storefront — not Steam, not Epic, not its own launcher — and published no PC system requirements.
There is no store page to wishlist, which is worth saying plainly: a wishlist entry is the single clearest signal a publisher gives that a PC version exists as a product. There isn't one.
What Rockstar has said about PC
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed it directly: 'Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you're judged by serving the core.'
That is a rationale, not a commitment. It explains why consoles come first without saying when — or whether — anything follows. It is also, notably, not a denial.
What the history suggests
Rockstar has ported its major games to PC eventually, every time. GTA V reached PC roughly eighteen months after its console launch. Red Dead Redemption 2 took about a year.
Extrapolating that pattern puts a GTA 6 PC version somewhere in 2027 — which is analysis, not an announcement, and should be treated as such. Rockstar has broken its own patterns before.
So: buy a console or wait?
If you want to play GTA 6 in 2026, a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S is the only way to do it. That is not a preference, it is the whole of the available option set.
If you would rather play it on PC, waiting is real — but understand what you are waiting for. There is no date to count down to, no page to wishlist, and no specification to build a machine against. Based on precedent it is likely more than a year, and based on announcements it is entirely unscheduled.
The honest middle path: the console version is not going anywhere, and neither is the eventual PC port. Nobody is forcing a decision now except the people selling countdown clocks.
PS5 or Xbox Series X?
Rockstar has announced no exclusivity arrangement, no timed content and no platform-specific features. There is no reason so far to expect the two console versions to differ in content.
Performance is a different question and an unanswered one: Rockstar has published no target framerate, no resolution figures and no comparison between PS5, PS5 Pro and Series X. If parity matters to you, that information does not exist yet — and historically it arrives at review embargo, not before.
In practice the deciding factor is the one it usually is: which console your friends are on, and which one you already own.
What about last-gen?
There is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and Rockstar has never suggested one is coming. GTA 5 shipped across two console generations and was later ported to a third; GTA 6 is not repeating that, at least not at launch.
Nintendo Switch 2 has also not been mentioned in any capacity.
Get Ready for GTA 6
Nothing exotic — just the hardware you actually need on launch day.
- PS5 Slim (disc edition)
The console GTA 6 launches on. The disc drive matters if you want a physical copy or plan to resell.
- DualSense — Midnight Black
A second controller, or a spare for when the first one drifts. Six years of Leonida is a long time for one pad.
- DualSense charging station
Charges two pads off the console's USB. Only worth it if you actually own two.
